Spotlight on Falling Like the Stars: An Inspiring Wedding Decor Business
I have recently had the pleasure of attending a couple of events at the Hidden Barn at 94, in Knutford, a charming venue that has opened its doors to host events and weddings.
During these events, I meet a lot of people and vendors: everyone comes together to make the day a memorable one. All vendors work hard to put up a day everyone will remember, and it is an opportunity for us all to show what we do best!
During the opening day at the Barn, I met Emily, owner of Falling Like the Stars, the business that was responsible for dressing up the venue.
The business is based in Congleton and her services include full venue dressing for weddings and events, wedding flowers, backdrops, stationery and an array of hire items to make any occasion special.
She made my job so much easier as I had so many beautiful details to capture, and the barn simply looked stunning.
The Decor At The Barn By Falling like the Stars
Behind all this hard work, there is the story of a business born from a huge passion to provide a great service that doesn’t break the bank.
I decided to interview Emily and I am sharing with you the interesting details of this great business!
Marco: First of all, what inspired you to start your business?
Emily: I was inspired to start my business after getting married myself and spending a huge amount on venue dressing. I noticed a lot of brides sacrificing their dream decor for a DIY style because of budget. I wanted to provide them with a “wow” decor for a reasonable cost. I decided to name the business after my husband and I’s first dance song!
Marco: How has the business been since you opened? Have you faced any challenges?
Emily: When we first opened, we had a really small inventory of cheaper stock. I soon realised that to grow, I needed to get some floristry training. Over the last few years, I’ve reinvested every penny I’ve made into growing my inventory to offer more and more to our couples. It has been challenging trying to stay affordable and grow quickly, but I’ve never wanted to charge high-end prices, so I try to make as much stock myself as I can (I.e silk centrepieces) to avoid putting pricing up.
Marco: What is your favourite part of the business?
Emily: My favourite part of the business is building relationships with my brides and sharing in their excitement on the lead up. I also love getting feedback after the weddings. In 4 years, I’m yet to receive bad feedback, which I’m really proud of.
Emily With Her Latest Family Addition!
Marco: What do you think sets you apart from other vendors that offer similar services? What can customers expect when they get in touch with you to hire you for their wedding?
Emily: What sets me apart is 100% the service you receive. I am there every step to help, even if it has nothing to do with decor. I’m your unofficial wedding planner, there with advice and recommendations should you need it!
Marco: What has been your greatest achievement so far?
Emily: My greatest achievement is that I have made it to the finals of County Brides for 3 years in a row, although I’m still hoping for a win one day!
Marco: You recently became a mum. How is this inspiring you in your daily work?
Emily: I actually recently had my fourth child, but he’s my first whilst running my own business. My kids are a huge part of my business, we are very much ‘family run’. My kids regularly come to the wholesalers, the office and sometimes even venues. I train them how to condition flowers, and my nine-year-old can make a great bouquet! I hope they grow up to realise you really can do anything you put your mind to.
